IPTV Takes Step Forward in China

According to a report in the South China Morning Post, China Telecom and China Netcom are moving their IPTV services beyond free pilot programs to more regular services which will charge customers. China Telecom is expected to start charging their IPTV customers in Shanghai at a monthly rate of 60RMB, of which 40 RMB will be for 30 channels and 1,500 of programs from the Shanghai Media Group, and the remaining 20 RMB will be for rental of a set-top box and transmission costs. In the city of Harbin 30,000 people have subscribed to China Netcom's IPTV service for 60 RMB to 80 RMB per month.
